To get to the Smyrna Cross Border, click HERE.

MATERIALS:
Clear (translucent) Plastic Canvas 14mesh
White or ecru may be substituted.

Stretcher Bars are recommended.

Threads: General Suggestions
Smyrna Cross Border- Sparkling Threads such as Tiara, Metallic Ribbon Floss, Fyre Werks

Central Heart Motif - Subtle Flat, Ribbon-like Thread such as Rhapsody, any Ribbon Floss, Silk Ribbon, Flair, Fyre Werks (consider a Variegated)

Filling Thread (between Border and Heart motif) - Matte (not glossy or shiny) Thread such as Silk and Ivory, Pearl Cotton, Embroidery Floss laid with laying tool, Very Velvet, Velour

Beads: General Suggestions
Outline Inside of Border and/or the Heart Motif with Seed Beads. Use either the same color for both or different colors.

Create a small group of Dangles (an odd number of dangles works best) to cascade from the top point. Use Seed beads and Small Accent beads.

Color Combinations: General Suggestions
Using 1 Color - vary the texture as much as possible such as a very Sparkly thread for the Border, a more subtle sparkle for the Heart and a flat (non-sparkle) for the Filling Thread

Using 2 Colors -
Variation 1: Color A in a  Sparkle for the Border and flat for the Filling Thread with Color B in a Sparkle for the Heart

Variation 2: Color A in a Sparkle (but not necessarily the same thread) for the Border and the Heart with Color B in a Sparkle for the Filling Thread

Order of Working -

1.Stitch Border of Smyrna Cross Stitch - Click HERE for more Information about the Smyrna Border.

2.Stitch Heart Motif, using laying tool or fingers to be sure stitches lay flat. Start by bringing thread up at 1, as indicated on chart.

3.Stitch Filling between Border and Heart Motif using 1 Color (Note: diagram is illustrated in 3 colors only to help differentiate Stitch Direction!) When I stitched one of the pins, I messed up the Filling Stitches slightly, but was able to cover the mistake with the Beads around the Heart and the Bead Dangles *VBG* I never did figure out what I did wrong *sigh*.

If you have difficulty printing the charts, please send a SASE, business size and a note about which chart you want.
