Stitching Instructions for Beaded
Version
Start with a Border of Smyrna
Crosses - 14 for each side. Use 2 strands of Flair
RG117 - Iridescent White
- Alternate the direction of the last bar on the Smyrna Cross Stitches
between Horizontal and Vertical to maximize the sparkle!
Stitch the Background with 6 strands of Splendor S860 - Light Blue using Basketweave over 2.
Use a Laying Tool or your fingers to keep the stitching flat.
Following the Chart, stitch the Branch with 2 strands of Bravo A126
- Green/Brown (varigated) reversing 1 strand to get a more interesting color mixture.
Use Wrapped Backstitch.
Stitch the Pine Needles with 1 strand of Bravo A131 - Cool
Greens (varigated) using Random Straight Stitch. Follow the guidelines on the
chart but put in many more stitches (See Photo of Pin).
Start the Pine Needles at the end of each twig, away from the twig and
alternate the end of each stitch in 1 of 3 ways:
1) burying it UNDER the Branch
2) carrying it just over the Branch
3) ending it in the center of the Branch stitching.
The idea is NOT to get a hard edge where the Pine Needles meet the Branch!
Put a row of Green Seed Beads just inside the Border where the Smryna Cross Stitches and
the Blue Background meet.
After stitching the beads along one side, run the thread back thru the
entire row to straighten and tighten them.
Finally Stitch individual white beads on using the placement of the Black dots on the
chart as a guide.
