December
Pin/Ornament of the Month
Designer's Note
This Month features on of my
most favorite Threads, Kreinik's 1/16" Ribbon.
It is fun to stitch with and the colors are thrilling.

Since you won't be Beading your pin, consider Beading a set of Stitch
Counters instead!

Stitch Counters.
Color Combinations: General Suggestions
The major design issue here is the contrast between the 2 colors used. If
you want a strong variation in the Center Medallion, choose 2 colors which
contrast strongly. If not, choose 2 colors which are close, as in the
Silver and Multi Pin which is beautiful but very subtle.
.
Using 2 Colors -
Use Color 1 for the Smyrna Borders, Color 2 for the Scotch Stitch Border
and both for the Center Medallion.
Use Color 1 and Color 2 for the Smyrna Borders, Color 2 for the Scotch
Stitch Border and Color 2 for the Center Medallion.
Use Color 1 for the Outer Smyrna Border, Color 2 for the Scotch Stitch
Border and Color 1 for the Inner Smyrna Border and Center Medallion.

Note: The colors shown are not representative of the colors used but were
changed to more clearly delineate the design elements.
Order of Working -
1.Smyrna Border:
Stitch Smyrna Cross Stitches - Click HERE
for diagram of Individual Smyrna Cross Stitch. Illustrated in Black on Diagram
1.
2.Scotch Stitch Border
Stitch the Scotch Stitch Border next, being careful to match
the Stitch orientation in the corners!
Check below for the diagram for the Scotch Stitch.
Scotch Stitch Diagram

NOTE: Needle comes up on odd numbers. Even numbers not
illustrated due to space constraints. Same color thread is used, but shown
as 2 colors on diagram to clarify the different stitches.
3.Center Medallion
Diagram 2

Click on Diagram 2 to see a
larger version.
NOTE: Squares represent holes in plastic canvas.
Use Diagram 1 for placement of Center Medallion.
Notes:
The stitching pattern is designed to avoid a build up of thread on the
back of the piece.
You will need to work the Thread/Ribbon with your fingers to get it lay
flat as you stitch the center.
Diagram 2 has the numbering for only half of the
Center Medallion because it got too crowded on the Diagram. Continue with
the stitching sequence all the way around.
For the Christmas Multi Pin, you
will be using both colors, each threaded in a different needle. Stitch
each stitch with the Shimmer and then carefully lay the Tiara over it,
before going on to the next stitch. |
